Nominal bleacher seating is 2x10 extruded aluminum plank — about 9.5 inches wide and about 1.75 inches thick, the same sizing bleacher manufacturers use for the foot plank underneath. Across an 8-to-12-hour day of pool play into bracket play, that's not one tipping event — it's hours spent on a moving, heat-radiating environment underneath everything a family sets down.
Tipping is a physics problem before it's a bad-luck problem. A tumbler or bottle resting on a small base carries its weight high above a narrow contact patch — the taller and narrower the object, the less it takes to shift its center of gravity past the edge of that patch. That's true standing still. Add motion — a plank ringing underfoot, a wagon jolting over a curb, a chair's fabric shifting as someone stands to yell at a dinger — and the same narrow base has to correct for a moving foundation on top of its own top-heavy shape. It usually can't do both at once.
The other failure mode is simpler: foot level. A wider base spreads the same weight over more contact area, which lengthens how far the center of gravity has to travel before it's past the edge — but width alone doesn't stop a direct kick, and no base claims to.
